Property Description
Sitting high atop the Riley Mountain range, Buck Spring Ranch is without question one of the most attractive and complete ranches in the entire coveted Texas Hill Country today. Buck Spring truly has it all live springs, majestic views, 1st class improvements, impoundments, topography, wildlife, hardwood cover and more. Located in Southern Llano County near the HWY 16 corridor between Llano and Fredericksburg, the ranch has paved access on CR 312 and sits among several sizable neighbors. Breathtaking views, topographical diversity, history, and strong groundwater make the Riley Mountain region extremely unique within Llano County. The terrain and habitat are desirable and diverse, ranging from high country to rolling hills loaded with hardwoods, to bottom land with high-quality soils. The improvements are a major highlight, and include a 7 BR, 7 BA lodge, multiple residences, a spring-fed lake on Pyramid Creek, tennis courts, heated pool, barns and more.
Water:
Buck Spring Ranch lies within an extremely unique region of Llano County with both groundwater and outcropping springs being a major benefit of the geology lying therein. The Riley Mountain Range and uplift is one of the only areas of Llano County that has limestone and sandstone formations as opposed to granite, resulting in much better groundwater than the rest of the county. There are 4 water wells on the ranch, with two being over 40 GPM, one being a windmill, and the last being unknown. Buck Spring, the ranchs namesake flows on the East side of the ranch, and another live spring is located near the front gate. A large concrete dam on Pyramid creek creates an outstanding water feature, backing up multiple acres of water and is set up so that it could be supplemented with well water, if ever needed. There is also a stock tank located in the Northern portion of the ranch that can be supplemented by well also.
Improvements:
A newly resurfaced paved road leads from the front gate to the top of a hill where the 7 BR 7 BA nearly 6,000 sq ft main lodge, custom built by Satterwhite, is the focal point of a world-class set of improvements with incredible views off the Northern facing 3,600 square foot deck with views of Sharp Mountain, Dancer Peak, and Sandstone Mountain. Constructed of beautiful specialty woods with massive native stone fireplaces and hardscape, the lodge is ideal for entertaining with a huge living area, floor-to-ceiling windows, and spacious wraparound porches to experience stunning sunrises, sunsets, and mountain breezes. The main level of the lodge has 5-bedroom suites on the first floor, and two additional bedroom suites and a sitting area upstairs to accommodate another 6-8 guests. Each bedroom has a unique design which is finished out with everything from granite counter tops and frameless shower doors to custom reading lights above the beds. High vaulted ceilings and huge windows create abundant natural light and a major remodel/update was just completed, making it even more appealing and functional. Entertaining is a dream with a speaker system wired throughout the lodge and a bar is outfitted with an ice maker, bar sink, and wine fridge. The spacious kitchen is equipped with a Viking range, custom built granite island, stainless steel 48 freezer and 48 refrigerator, double oven, cabinets galore, and wonderful views. The lodge is completely furnished and ready for use.
There are multiple outbuildings next to the lodge, including a commercial-capacity laundry room with an adjacent room for hunting gear, and a free-standing storage building. The exterior finishes and workmanship were built to compliment the main lodge. Sitting West of the main lodge is a guest lodge equipped with pool table, entertaining areas, ping pong, wet-bar, and 1.5 baths on the first-floor level. On the upper level there are two bedrooms with suite half-baths to accommodate up to 8 people. Near the lodge there is a heated swimming pool with a native stone waterfall, a one-of-a-kind custom log built electric smoker, large fire pit for nighttime activities, a sandbox for young children, and a lighted tennis court. At the gated front entrance to the property an additional guesthouse/gatehouse looks out over the large dammed water feature on Pyramid Creek, and offers additional lodging for 5 to 6 guests or a ranch manager, 3 bedrooms with suite baths, 2 kitchens and a spacious common area.
Additional improvements include a very large workshop barn, a storage barn, a wildlife processing barn equipped with walk-in cooler and separate freezer, horse stables, high-end skeet thrower off the lodge deck, rifle range, and a five-acre high fenced catch pen that currently has axis deer that are being soft released.
Recreation/Hunting:
Buck Spring Ranch has been intensively managed, and protein fed for 25+ years. It has a great native whitetail herd as well as axis deer, blackbuck antelope, feral hogs, dove, turkey and waterfowl. The main water feature on Pyramid Creek is stocked providing an outstanding fishing opportunity. The ranch is equipped with 6 box blinds, protein feeders, and corn feeders. The West end of the ranch has an excellent crop field that was planted in oats last year.
Terrain/Topography:
Topography on the property is varied with hills, valleys, draws, and plateaus. It ranges from approximately 1,660 +/- feet above sea level at the highest point of the property on the southern end of the ranch to approximately 1,400+/- feet above sea level on the Northern border of the property. Although the ranch sits at the top of Riley Mountain and has great topographical relief, it is unique in that it is generally usable land and is not rough in its elevation changes. There are plentiful hardwoods, and quality grasses, as well as areas with soils that are rich enough to be planted in food plots.
